VAA Nida Art Colony is looking for Lithuanian artists for the residency programmes in Ukraine and Armenia. The programme is being developped in the framework of the project East-West. Lithuanian artists will be invited to the Ukrainian art center IZOLYATSIA in Donetsk and in the art center ACOSS in Yerevan. More information - in the Lithuanian version of the NAC website.

There are six residents in Nida Art Colony at the moment and for the first time in NAC’s history all of them are male. Besides, they are travelling so much (in Lithuania and Europe) that their studios are often left to lean silently in autumnal wind.

Creative Documentary Thursdays in Nida: "Before Flying Back to Earth"

On the 31st of October Nida Art Colony will host a second Creative Documentary Thursday with documentaries by studio "Nominum". On screen tomorrow, according to the specified programme, will be the film "Before Flying Back to Earth" by Arūnas Matelis, thus the earlier announced film by Arūnas Mickevičius and the authors visit will be postponed to next Thursday.

Goethe-Institut, Institut Français in Lithuania, Nida Art Colony of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, and independent curator Julija Čistiakova are pleased to present residency project "Between Time and History", dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty* and European integration development. The result of collaboration between three artists from Germany, France, and Lithuania will be presented at the Vilnius Art Academy exhibition hall "Titanikas". The exhibition will open on the 8 November 2013 at 6 p.m.

On the forthcoming weekend, the 15-16th of November, VAA Nida Art Colony invites locals and late autumnal tourists to face the transformation process of the hanger – through live sound and video performance and open street art workshop a neighboring warehouse from soviet times will become “Artgar”. With these events NAC wants to bid a farewell to the old colony space - hanger - one of few urban-industrial buildings in Nida.

These days, November 22–23, the second part of “Context in Flux” symposium takes place in Visby, Gotland, Sweden. These symposiums are organised by the Swedish Exhibition Agency, Baltic Art Center, Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts and Art Lab Gnesta. The aim of symposiums is to develop tools that can assist cultural institutions who work in many and overlapping context.

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO INTER-FORMAT SYMPOSIUM ON FLUX OF SAND AND AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS

May 22–25, 2014, Nida, Lithuania

The international symposium is a part of the techno-ecologies project in cooperation with RIXC (Latvia). In 2014 the Flux of Ecosystems of Sand, Water and Man will be discussed and performed in depth during lectures, performances, site-specific artworks, workshops and collective dinners. The participative nature of the symposium brings together 30-40 professionals for 3 days and nights to spend time in the intensive and productive sharing and working environment. Artists, curators, scientists, researchers and people from interdisciplinary background are welcome to apply. Selected participants are provided with travel grants (up to 350 EUR), accommodation and catering. More on symposium’s keywords, questions and keynotes.

Fluctuating in Flux

While on the plane over the Baltic, it seems appropriate to have a moment of arguably quiet (given that the engines of the plane are roaring worse than a Polar Bear, and in loop) retrospective overview of "Context in Flux", a symposium initiated by the Swedish Exhibition Agency and Lab 13, which took place on both coasts of the Baltic, in Nida, at Nida Art Colony and in Visby, Baltic Art Center (further - BAC), one in October, and the other – in November.

The morning of December the 9th could be announced as an official beginning of winter in Curonian Spit – nature and surroundings were robed in white, paths covered with ice, regular walkers slowed down the step… Together with winter snow four new residents arrived to Nida Art Colony – Erin Tjin A Ton from the Netherlands and even three Shouth American artists – Luisa Nobrega (Brasil), Maricel Delgado and Fernando Prieto (Peru).
